Nokia Expands in Webscale with Infinera Deal

Nokia purchases Infinera to support the Revolution in Power Data Centres

To build an optical networks powerhouse, Nokia has finished acquiring San Jose-based Infinera Corporation. The purchase accelerates product roadmaps and offers more to consumers faster by combining two innovative leaders in the optical networks sector.

The acquisition increases Nokia’s visibility in the fast-growing webscale sector, therefore increasing client diversification; it also increases Nokia’s capacity to enable network operators to seize opportunities and satisfy network and power needs of the AI age.
Under James Watt, Vice President and General Manager, the Infinera team will be joining Nokia’s Optical Networks division.
David Heard, Infinera CEO, will join Nokia’s Network Infrastructure business group as NI Chief Strategic Growth Officer.
Along with top companies in verticals including industry, utilities, government and research & education, the solutions of the combined company power some of the largest operators worldwide.
From service providers to webscalers to companies in a wide spectrum of business sectors, Nokia’s products across the Network Infrastructure portfolio apply the same mission-critical standards to customers in every area.
Nokia targets approximately EUR 200 million of net comparable operating profit synergies from the deal by 2027; the transaction is expected to be accretive to Nokia comparable operating profit and EPS in 2025.
